SELMA BY AVA DUVERNAY AND PAUL WEBB: ROUNDTABLE AND FILM SCREENING

The African and African-American Studies Research Center (AAASRC), Professor Bennetta Jules-Rosette, Director presents a roundtable discussion and film screening. Selma is a biography of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and is focused on the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Film: 128 minutes, preceded by a roundtable discussion chaired by Provost Ivan Evans, Eleanor Roosevelt College. Light refreshments.

AFRO-CARIBBEAN DANCE & DRUMMING WORKSHOP
Percussionist Gene Perry and his ensemble demonstrate African and Afro-Caribbean drumming and dance styles with audience participation. Refreshments. Children and amateurs welcome. Bring your own percussion instruments if possible. Light refreshments.

A lecture by Brittany Birberick, Doctoral Candidate, UC Berkeley
Birberick examines the lottery game of fife, organized and introduced by Chinese migrants in South Africa, as a lens for analyzing urban redevelopment, social, racial, and work relations for its Black residents. Light refreshments.
